Tanzania is famous for its illustrious safaris. The north circuit, comprising the Serengeti, Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks are often the game drive destinations of choice, but it is southern Tanzania that offers the most authentic safari experiences. Miles upon miles of untouched wilderness bursts with animals in their thousands; the Selous National Park boasts the highest population of buffalo in the whole of Africa. Journey to Saadani, a National Park where the savannah meets the sea. Watch herds of elephant stomp along the sands and learn about the endangered green turtles that make their home off the coastline.
Our Secret South itinerary takes you to two of Tanzania’s most spectacular safari destinations. You will begin with the Selous, Africa’s largest game reserve. The rolling plains and patches of woodland are inhabited by some of the world’s most iconic animals: zebras, elephants, wildebeest and lion roam the landscape. Sail across Lake Tagalala for a unique boat safari where mighty hippos saunter along the muddy shore and yellow-billed stalks stand tall at the waterside. Continue onwards to Saadani National Park, the only wildlife sanctuary in Africa that borders the sea. Drift along the Wami River before learning about turtle conservation at Madete beach.
